Working Lives Kenya: Chemist

An industrial chemist, Steve Okiri has to give up time with his family in order to make a living.

He works on Lake Magadi, two hours drive from the capital, for a plant which makes soda ash - an active ingredient in detergents - for export.

He is passionate about his job, saying that he is proud to be working in a role he has become an expert in.

During the week he has to live on site near the lake - and while he would like to see his family more, he says the camaraderie that comes from living with his colleagues is a bonus.
