Stand-off in Cairo's Liberation Square

Help

Tension is mounting in the Egyptian capital Cairo while the military has staged an apparent show of strength during a sixth day of protests against President Hosni Mubarak.

Two air force jets and a helicopter have been repeatedly flying low over the centre of the city and a column of tanks has arrived there only to have its path blocked by protesters.

Jeremy Bowen reports from Cairo's Tahrir (Liberation) Square, the main gathering point for demonstrators.
