Police and protesters faced off in several Brazilian cities, despite the government's decision to reverse fare rises on public transport, the original grievance which sparked the demonstrations.

In the federal capital, Brasilia, students and members of the "Free Pass" protest movement took over the bus station.
This protester jumped over a turnstile in Brasilia's underground to show his opposition to the fare rises.
The Guy Fawkes mask, a recurrent theme at protests from Istanbul to Athens to New York, has also appeared in Brazil.
In Rio de Janeiro's sister city Niteroi, riot police could be seen moving into position.
And this was the scale of the protests police in Niteroi were confronting.
In Belo Horizonte, some protesters banged out their anger on drums.
This police station in Sao Paulo was wrecked by protesters angered by police corruption.
Elsewhere in Sao Paulo, protesters blocked the highway.
There were also clashes in the north-eastern city of Fortaleza.
