Indigenous groups in the Peruvian Amazon say they plan to launch their own political party ahead of general elections next year.

The indigenous leader Alberto Pizango said the party would campaign to protect the rainforest and the rights of indigenous people in the Andes mountains as well as the Amazon.

Mr Pizango, who is on bail on charges of sedition after violent protests last year, told the BBC World Service he was "against violence".
