Lady Sheila Butlin, widow of the founder of Butlin's holiday camps Sir Billy Butlin, has died aged 89.

Lady Butlin died peacefully at her home in Jersey on Saturday, family funeral directors confirmed.

Born as Sheila Devine, she moved to Jersey with Billy Butlin in 1968. The couple married in 1975.

While living in Jersey they became active members of St John's parish community life and donated land for a community centre to be built.

In 2015 Lady Butlin opened the newly-refurbished St John recreation centre.

Sir Billy, who died in Jersey in 1980, aged 80, opened his first holiday camp in 1936 and turned the idea into a multi-million pound leisure industry.
