Plans to bring the fast food chain Burger King to the Channel Islands have moved a step closer.

Sandpiper CI has agreed a deal to open the franchise there.

Plans have been submitted for a 60-seater restaurant on York Street, St Helier, Jersey, which could open by the spring.

Sandpiper are also looking for suitable sites in Guernsey and hope to open there by the end of the year.

Tony O'Neill, the CEO of Sandpiper CI, said big high street brands make the Channel Islands more attractive:

"You'll going to get polarised opinions.... We'll have a view that says well it's not another local brand, but as I've said before I think these brands we're bringing in are complementing local ownership".

"It's a marriage that put together well makes the islands a more attractive place both for islanders and for visitors alike," he said.
