Jersey freight delayed by Elizabeth Harbour broken bridge

Freight shipments were delayed on Tuesday as harbour workers repaired a bridge connecting traffic with ferries at Elizabeth Harbour in Jersey.

The bridge was damaged during high tides, strong winds and heavy rain on Monday.

One shipment was due in on Tuesday morning but it had to be redirected to Guernsey.

Harbour officials said work was completed by 17:00 GMT in time for the arrival of the Condor Clipper at 19:20.

A spokesman said work to replace another bridge on the western side of the harbour meant there was no way to bring freight in.

The work began last October and is due for completion in February.
