An alternative folk band that got through to the final of the Jersey Junior Battle of the Bands on a wild card have won the competition.

Alfresco Bandits beat four other acts to win a spot at the Jersey Live music festival on Saturday on the JT Stage.

Singer Grace MacDonald won best acoustic act and will also play at the festival.

Alfresco Bandits, who have been together for three months, won a place in the final in a people's choice vote.

They said they were shocked when they found out they had won.

Singer Michelle Quintal said: "We didn't expect it so much that we made plans this Saturday that we are going to have to cancel. We've had a birthday party moved for us."

The band beat Two Days Too Soon, Elucid, Wicker Ocean and Hidden Tricks to claim both the best band prize and the supreme winner title.

As supreme winner they will be treated as rockstars for the day by festival sponsors JT Global. They will be taken to the festival in a limo, have a photo shoot with a top Jersey photographer and a featured interview in a Jersey lifestyle magazine.
