New recycling scheme to start in St Helier

A new regular recycling service is due to start in St Helier later this month.

Parishioners will be given recycling bags to put their plastic, cans and paper in which will then be collected fortnightly from outside homes.

Householders without the space to store recyclables will be able to use the new communal recycling points, which are due to be introduced later in the year.

The scheme will split St Helier into four zones with a dedicated collection crew for each area.

The changes may mean a different collection day for refuse for some homes.

The parish said it has been able to introduce the kerbside recycling collection without needing extra staff.

Debra D'Orleans, from St Helier municipal services department, said successful pilot schemes had led to more parishioners asking for kerbside recycling.
