Over 60 swine flu cases in Jersey recorded this year

More than half of all cases of flu recorded so far this year in Jersey have been of the H1N1 - swine flu - strain.

Jersey's health department recorded 62 cases of swine flu out of a total of 116 cases of flu up to 9 January.

The health department has already written to parents with advice about the virus.

Last winter 80% of children were vaccinated against swine flu.

The health department said there was still the possibility of outbreaks in schools.

Parents in Jersey are being urged to keep their children away from school, if they have flu-like symptoms.

Health officers are also urging pregnant women or people who have had a baby in the past six weeks to get the flu vaccination.
