Schemes to help Jersey residents afford dental care are to be publicised more after a report found many people avoid going to the dentist because of cost.

A panel of politicians looking into dentistry concluded costs were too high for the average family.

It also found programmes to help people cover costs were not well publicised and did not apply to many.

The ministers overseeing dental services agreed to examine how they are provided in Jersey.

Ministers acknowledge many people find going to the dentist too expensive and so will look into the service as part of a wider review of the health department.

They will also look at more effective ways of letting people know about schemes that could help them pay for dental care.
