People in Jersey have been asked to donate a toy as a Christmas gift for less well-off children.

The toy and gift appeal has been organised by Jersey's Salvation Army.

Islanders are being encouraged to buy one extra toy when they go shopping, between now and 10 December.

Collection boxes have been set up in the Co-operative's main stores in St Helier and St Peter and other island toy shops.

Toys and gifts will then be sorted for the States of Jersey Social Services Department to deliver.

The Salvation Army will also be packing food parcels in the week before Christmas, bought with cash from donations.
