Jersey's military tattoo cancelled over sponsorship

A military tattoo planned to take place in Jersey has been cancelled due to a lack of sponsorship.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) in Jersey had organised the event for 19 November.

But military groups including the Royal Artillery Band had been booked before sponsorship had been found.

Jersey RBL chairman Ken Soar said: "We tried to get the arrangements done before seeking a sponsor, and we probably left it a little late."

Ticket prices

Mr Soar said: "We had the Royal Artillery Band coming across which is very difficult to secure, we had the Caledonian Pipers and we had the choral societies and bands on the island."

The RBL had wanted to secure £10,000 of sponsorship to host the event.

Mr Soar said: "We wanted £10,000 because we wanted to keep the price of tickets down as low as we could. The lower the price ticket, the more people could attend.

"It takes a lot of work to do it but just in terms of being part of the community I think it's very important."

RBL said it was now looking for a sponsor to support a tattoo planned for 19 November 2011.
