Jersey university students encouraged to post luggage

University students in Jersey are being encouraged to post their luggage to the UK rather than take it on an aeroplane.

The States of Jersey Education Department is sending information to all new first-year students.

Jersey Post is offering to ship a 30kg (66lb) suitcase to the UK for £14. Baggage allowances and excess charges vary on different airlines.

Education spokesman Andy Gibbs said students' moving costs could add up quickly.

The government-owned Jersey Post can also organise the collection of belongings to be brought back to the island from a UK university at the end of term.
