Two ferry crossings between the Isle of Man and the UK have been cancelled due to Storm Barbara, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company confirmed.

The Manx Met Office issued an amber weather warning as 70mph (112km/h) winds and heavy rain hit the island.

The sailings between Douglas and Heysham in Lancashire at 08:45 and 14:15 GMT have been cancelled.

The 19:45 and 02:15 sailings are currently scheduled to operate, the company said.

A spokesman said passengers booked on sailings on Friday and Saturday should check with the company's call centre before travelling.

The ferry company said extra freight services had been put in place.

Some flights travelling to Ronaldsway have also been affected, including flights from Dublin and Liverpool.
