A £40,000 project to remedy the "unacceptable condition" of Douglas Promenade will be a "short-term fix", the Manx government has said.

The work, between Broadway and the Summerhill junction, will be a temporary solution until the promenade can be reconstructed, Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer said.

The two-week project begins on Friday.

It will see parking suspended and a contraflow system used "to minimise disruption", a spokesman said.

Work would be carried out in two phases - between Broadway and the Palace Hotel first and then from the hotel up to the Summerhill junction.

The spokesman said parking would be suspended from Friday between Broadway and the Palace Hotel, adding: "All vehicles have to be moved before 12:00 GMT."
