Funding for a new £3.5m Isle of Man ferry terminal in Liverpool has been approved by the Manx parliament.

The existing facility at the Pier Head landing stage is "nearing the end of its operational life", an infrastructure spokesman said.

Construction of a new terminal, half a mile away (800m) at Princes Half-Tide Dock, is subject to planning permission.

Minister Phil Gawne said Liverpool is the island's "most popular sea route".

The proposals were approved in Tynwald on Wednesday.
