A man who died when his car crashed at high speed into a tree had cocaine, ecstasy and alcohol in his system, an inquest in the Isle of Man has heard.

Jamie Cowhig, a 27-year-old plasterer from Merseyside, died instantly after crashing his Ford Focus on 28 December, near the area known as Bishopscourt.

The court heard he had been returning home to Ramsey after giving a friend a lift home to Kirk Michael from Douglas.

Douglas coroner John Needham recorded an accidental death verdict on Monday.
