Work starts on care home for 'most vulnerable' Manx residents
The construction of a new residential care home for some of the Isle of Man's "most vulnerable" people has started.
The £1.3m scheme in Strang, Braddan will provide 10 beds for adults with learning difficulties.
Due to open next year, it will replace two smaller facilities in Douglas which no longer meet minimum standards.
The Department of Health said about 300 people on the Isle of Man have a complex learning disability, of whom about 120 live in community homes.
Plans for the new building include bigger bedrooms, en-suites with hoisting and specialist bathing facilities, and more accessible communal living areas.
