A new principal has been appointed at the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education, the Department of Education and Children has confirmed.

Geoff Draper succeeds Professor Ronald Barr, who was appointed Chief Executive Officer at the department in September.

Mr Draper, a former Royal National College for the Blind principal and army colonel, will take up the post in January after relocating to the island.

He said he hoped to add to the college's "excellent reputation".

Mr Draper was educated at Liverpool and Manchester universities and later graduated from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

He will lead more than 5,000 full and part-time students at the college in Homefield Road, Douglas, and take control of a budget of £11m.
