In pictures: Peel photographed for future generations
Photographer Chris Littler will unveil a collection of images this week designed to provide an insight into life in Peel, a small fishing town on the west coast of the Isle of Man.
Working in collaboration with the Peel Heritage Trust and the Manx Heritage Foundation, Mr Littler and fellow photographer Sharon Sim spent three days in July documenting ordinary people going about daily business.
Mr Littler said: "Inspiration came from both the old and the new. I wanted to capture shopkeepers and their premises, so future generations can see how the high street looked at this time."
He added: "I wanted a normal week, not the Viking boat races or the carnival, just three days that would normally pass and be forgotten."
"A number of small independent shops have closed for good in recent times and without documentation we lose important parts of our social history," he added.
Mr Littler hopes the project will serve as a record of Peel in 2011 that can be preserved for future generations. The full project can be viewed on peel2011.com.
