A 33-year-old man from the Isle of Man was taken to hospital after he lost control of his car before it struck the wall of a house and flipped over.

The blue Volkswagen Golf was being driven in Alexander Drive, Douglas, at about 2155 GMT on Sunday when it crashed near Westminster Drive.

It careered down Alexander Drive before coming to a stop, on its roof, near the junction of Primrose Avenue.

Police said the vehicle had failed to stop for a police van earlier.

The driver was taken to Nobles Hospital by ambulance but was not seriously injured, police said.

The road was closed for several hours for investigation work and to allow officers to clear the debris.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
