Remarks by a Tory MP, who called for the UK government to seek "inspiration" from the Isle of Man, have been welcomed by the chief minister.

Mark Field, MP for Cities of London and Westminster, told the coalition that the Manx government had a balanced and diversified economy.

He advised the Treasury to use the Manx policies as a blueprint.

Tony Brown MHK said: "This is important recognition. We have a very positive message to tell the world."

The island's flourishing aerospace sector and its aircraft and ship registers were just some of the factors that had led to it being able to weather the economic storm, Mr Field told his Westminster colleagues on Wednesday.

"We hope (these comments) will help to raise further awareness of the island's business strengths and pioneering outlook," Mr Brown said.
