Douglas Rose Gardens damaged by vandals

Vandalism in Rose Gardens Police say the the gardens were vandalised late on Thursday or early on Friday

Vandals have caused more than £2,000 worth of damage to the Rose Gardens in Douglas.

A statue of a naked athlete was pulled off its plinth, causing damage to the feet. It was dragged across the grass to the path, causing more damage.

The incident took place at some time late on Thursday or early on Friday morning, police said.

A police spokesman said it was a "sacrilege to the memory of the people who bequeathed the land".

Police believe a large group of youths were drinking in the area on Thursday night and want to hear from them or anyone else who has information to contact them.
