Skills Guernsey says island has 'skills shortage'

Guernsey needs to address a skills shortage among its workforce, business leaders have said.

Skills Guernsey, an organisation of politicians and business leaders, is surveying employers to find out what skills are missing in the island.

Chairwoman Elaine Monkhouse said workers needed to have transferable skills.

"The days of staying in one organisation or sector are gone or going," she said.

"In order to keep adapting, people need to have the right basic skills and also confidence for life-long learning to keep on going."

The group's findings are due to be released in September.
