Homeware store Quayside to close with 25 job losses

A homeware store in Guernsey is to close at the end of January, making 25 people redundant.

The owners of Quayside, the NP Group, say it is not "cost-effective" to refurbish their building and they have taken the decision to close.

Tony Gallienne from the group said: "The business could not sustain itself during the period of closure anticipated for the rebuild."

The company will provide redundancy pay and advice for staff.

Mr Gallienne said: "This has been an extremely difficult decision for us, as one of the key strengths of Quayside is the loyalty and professionalism of the staff.

"The plan of support includes redundancy pay, careers advice, counselling and access to employment rights advice, job opportunities within the NP Group if available, careers advice, and introductions to third party employers."

The company announced that Quayside will close on 31 January, 2015.

The store has been trading on the North Side of St Sampson's harbour since 1985 serving as a home and leisure store.
