Guernsey's older generation to be cared for by the States

Guernsey's older population will be given extra care support from the States.

A working group has been set up to establish what care, support and accommodation will be available to the elderly over the coming years.

Chief Minister Peter Harwood said: "The Supported Living and Ageing Well Strategy is a priority."

The strategy is part of a full review, which will take into account the range of current care services.

Deputy Harwood said: "The review will include services and funding from those provided to people who are cared for by their families and friends; through supported living options, such as extra-care developments and residential and nursing care services; to specialist and hospital care and long-term off-island placements.

"The strategy will also include consideration of services in Alderney."
