Alderney politician says longer runway essential

Alderney needs to invest in a longer runway in order to encourage its business and tourism economies, says a politician.

Louis Jean represents Alderney in the States of Guernsey and says a lack of air and sea links will do further economic damage to the island.

The 2013 Alderney census showed a 20% population drop over ten years.

Mr Jean said a significant investment was urgently needed to halt that decline "before things get worse".

Extending the runway would allow bigger planes and better economies of scale, he added.
