Sark's poll topper wants to continue to focus on the island's tourist industry after being returned to the island's government in Wednesday's election.

Conseiller Sandra Williams got the support of 244, or 71%, of the 344 voters.

She said she hoped to continue in her current role as chairwoman of the tourism committee.

She expressed surprise at topping the polls and put it down to having support among the island's young people.

Ms Williams said she believed "we need to be working for their future".

She said: "The majority of the issues are the concerns about the costs of living here, the medical insurance and renting - there's nowhere for young people to live at a reasonable rent.

"The major challenge for the coming year is land reform... which will take a lot of work.

"I think the splitting of the dual role of the seneschal is going to be hard for people to take on board... but it's something we've got to do."
