Guernsey Press delayed by 'catastrophic failure'

The Thursday edition of the Guernsey Press was "hit by a catastrophic mechanical failure", delaying publication until 13:00 GMT.

The island's only daily newspaper is normally published at 10:00.

Half of the newspaper's printing press was "rendered inoperable first thing this morning", a spokesman said.

An eight page "emergency edition" was distributed - on sale at the normal price of 50p - which readers could then swap for the full edition.

The Guernsey Press has apologised for the delay, which it described as being "caused by circumstances outside of its control".
