Three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx MBE has received an honorary doctorate for his work with the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation.

Mr Priaulx received the doctorate in Civil Law from the University of East Anglia in a ceremony at Les Cotils in St Peter Port on Tuesday.

He said: "I can't really put into words what this means to me."

At the same time degrees were conferred on 13 Guernsey health and social care professionals.

They had completed courses at the island's Institute of Health and Social Care Studies.

Andy Priaulx and his wife Jo set up the charity after both their children were born premature.

Mr Priaulx said: "We know only too well how vulnerable premature babies are as they were both born early.

"We made a pledge that we would do all we could to help people in a similar situation to make sure their children had the best possible chances of survival.

"It has been an honour to receive this doctorate for the work, but to me the reward is helping parents of ill children."
