A donation of almost £5,000 from guests attending an awards evening will go towards the training of paramedics in Guernsey.

Those attending the Guernsey Awards for Achievement Gala Evening were asked to donate to the cause and raised £4,765.

Jon Beausire, St John Ambulance and Rescue chief officer, said he was stunned and hugely appreciative of the donation.

He hopes to train two new paramedics in 2011 at the cost of £15,000 each.
