Call for more Guernsey blood donors

Guernsey's blood transfusion service has appealed for more people to donate.

There are donor sessions at the blood bank at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital each week and about 2,000 islanders are already registered.

Michelle Francis, the clinical nurse specialist, said about 2,500 units of blood were used every year along with platelets imported from the UK.

She said more donors were needed and those already signed up must ensure their details were kept up to date.

She said: "We've got lots of donors we can't call at the moment, for various reasons, they've moved house or changed their telephone number.

"We'd like to ask all these donors to get in touch with their new details."
