Guernsey Fire Service urges electrical safety checks

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service has reminded islanders to regularly check their electrics to ensure fire safety at home.

It said faulty electrical goods was one of the biggest causes of house fires in the British Isles.

The fire service has begun a week-long campaign to highlight measures that could prevent a fire.

During the campaign it is reminding islanders it offers year-round fire risk checks at no cost.

It said not overloading plug sockets, regularly checking for worn or frayed wires and keeping heaters clear of curtains or furniture could all help stop a fire starting.
