Guernsey's North Show will go ahead in 2011, as a sponsor has stepped in after the two-day event in August was heavily affected by rain.

Visitor numbers were down and organisers were forced to use up their reserve funds to balance the books.

Stuart Wilson, treasurer of the North Show Committee, said the £12,000 from Le Friquet Centre was brilliant news.

The event in Saumarez Park is home to the annual Battle of Flowers and usually attracts thousands of visitors.

Mr Wilson said: "We need a working budget at the end of the previous show to make sure we can do another one.

"So provided we're over that working budget of £30,000 in the bank then we can go ahead, this does that and gives us a little bit more."
