Guernsey residents urged to vote in parish elections

People in Guernsey are being urged to vote in the parish elections, where there are contested seats, by the Island Douzaine Council chairman.

Nine douzenier seats are being contested and the position of St Peter Port constable will also be decided.

Shane Langlois said: "It's good to see democracy in action.

"It'll be interesting to see what happens in St Saviour with five candidates standing for three seats."

The elections are due to take place at parish meetings on Wednesday evening.

Out of the remaining 34 seats, all but one were uncontested with no nominations being received for the post of St Sampson constable.
