Police have renewed an appeal for information after a County Monaghan student sustained extensive head injuries during an assault.

Kym Owens, 18, from Castleblayney, was found unconscious on a footpath in the Moyglare Abbey estate in Maynooth, County Kildare, on Sunday night.

She is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Gardaí (Irish police) have not ruled out the possibility that Ms Owens may have been attacked by someone she knew.

They said there may have been more than one perpetrator in the attack between 20:15 and 20:30 local time.

Ms Owens, who has long brown hair, was wearing a long, dark green coat with a hood, black jeans, a "red hoody and white converse runners".

Gardaí have appealed to witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Sunday night, or who may have appeared agitated or with marks to their body or clothing, to contact them.
