Two men have died following an overnight house fire in County Cork in the Republic of Ireland, despite a rescue attempt by neighbours.

A woman, believed to be the mother of one of the victims, escaped from her home in St Colman's Park, Macroom, by jumping from an upstairs window.

She was treated in hospital along with one neighbour who had tried to help.

The dead men have been named locally as Kenny Relihan, in his 20s, and Noel O'Mahony, who was in his 60s.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but Irish state broadcaster RTÉ has reported that early indications suggest it was accidental.
