100 police officers in Waterford organised crime raids

More than 100 police officers have been involved in raids in Waterford in the Republic of Ireland as part of an investigation into organised crime.

It is understood about 25 houses have been searched in the city.

Police said it was part of an investigation into organised criminal activity, particularly one organisation involved in illegal money lending and other activities.

Forty arrests have previously been made as part of the investigation.

Tuesday's searches were carried out by police based in Waterford, assisted by officers from the Criminal Assets Bureau, regional support units, organised crime unit, air support unit and the dog unit.
