Officer injured by stolen van near Cork city centre
A Garda (Irish police) officer has been injured after his motorcycle was rammed by a van in Cork.
The vehicle was being driven at high speed on the Mallow Road when the accident happened around 08:00 BST on Friday.
The officer was taken to Cork University Hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Two men in their 20s were later arrested.
The van had earlier been reported stolen and was suspected in the involvement in a number of burglaries.
It was observed in the Douglas area of the city by police.
The van was then driven at speed through Cork city centre where it rammed a police van and a number of other vehicles near Merchants Quay.
The police officer was later injured when it was driven onto the Mallow Road.
The suspect van was stopped near Blarney and police arrested two men.
A quantity of stolen property was also recovered from the van.
The two men are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
