Irishman Eamonn Driver, 31, jailed for Australia deaths
An Irishman who was extradited to Australia over a car crash in which two Irish people died has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison.
Eamonn Driver, 31, from Slane, County Meath, was speeding in a car in Perth on 31 October 2007.
It hit a kerb, overturned and collided with another car.
Two passengers in Driver's car died in the accident. They were Colm Reilly, 20, and Kiara Duncan, 22, both from County Meath.
Mr Reilly died instantly in the collision, while Ms Duncan died in hospital three days later.
The woman who was driving the other car escaped without serious injury.
Driver pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, causing death.
In court in Australia, he was sentenced to two years and 50 weeks in prison.
He will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.
