Armed officers policing funeral in Longford

Armed police officers in the Republic of Ireland are involved in a major operation at a funeral in Longford town.

It follows violence at a wake in the town on Monday night.

The Garda Regional Support Unit is providing backup to local officers as a funeral cortege makes its way to a cemetery on the Athlone Road outside Longford.

No disturbances have been reported.

Meanwhile, five men are due in court later to face public order and other charges.

They arise from an incident on Monday night when three people were stabbed.
