Irish youth dies in Syrian fighting

A 16-year-old Irish Muslim boy has been killed while fighting with rebel forces in Syria.

Shamseddin Gaidan, who moved to Ireland from Libya with his family in 2001, joined the Syrian rebels last year.

He had been living in Navan, County Meath, where his father runs a Halal business.

The youth was due to return to Ireland after spending his summer holidays in Libya but travelled to Syria via Turkey instead.
