Spanish police have arrested a Romanian suspected of having strangled his wife in Madrid and then shown her body to his father in Romania via a webcam.

Police say they were alerted by Romanian police acting on a tip-off from the suspect's father.

The 21-year-old had reportedly threatened to kill his wife's 13-year-old sister too. His wife, who was 19 and also a Romanian, was pregnant.

The suspect does not have any convictions in Spain.

The arrest on Monday happened about 45 minutes after Spanish police had received the alert from Romania, the Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported.

The 13-year-old girl had returned to the couple's flat, in Madrid's Torrejon de Ardoz district, just minutes before police arrived at the scene and found the body.

The Romanian couple were not known to have a history of domestic violence.
