Flock of 500 sheep vanishes in eastern Georgia

BBC map

Mystery surrounds the fate of two shepherds who vanished with their dogs and some 500 sheep in eastern Georgia, near the Azerbaijani border.

Police and local people from the village of Akhalsopeli, Gardabani district, have been searching for four days for the flock, Georgian media say.

But no trace of the shepherds or their flock has been found.

While sheep theft is not unusual, local people cannot understand how so large a number could disappear.

The shepherds were named as brothers Koba and Sulhan Arabuli.
