Ammunition and 'bomb parts' found during border search

Irish police have found a "significant amount" of items including ammunition during planned searches in County Donegal.

The searches are believed to have taken place on a road between Killea and Bridgend just across the border from Londonderry.

A Garda spokesperson said they had also found what they believed were the components of an explosive device.

The Gardai were assisted by an Irish Army Bomb Disposal Unit.

It is understood the searches took place in a field and there were no evacuations of any homes involved.

The Killea to Bridgend road has reopened following the completion of the operation.
