Some of the quirkier snippets from the news in Africa that we did not know last week:
1) Ethiopia has a space observatory:
The two large telescopes outside Addis Ababa cost around $4m.
2) It might be possible to survive as a stowaway for 11 hours:
A stowaway reported to have survived a long-haul flight from South Africa to the UK may have experienced temperatures as low as -54C. He is now in a critical condition in hospital, although his fellow stowaway is said to have died after falling from the plane onto a London roof.
3) An English rock star is helping to resurrect Djibouti's national airline:
Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson's company has signed a contract with the government to re-launch Air Djibouti.
4) A group of Ugandan artists are living on a floating island:
The piece of land has broken off from Uganda's mainland and is now floating in Lake Victoria.
5) A farmer might become next Tanzania's president:
Journalist Joseph Warungu spotted an ordinary farmer running to lead Tanzania's governing party.
