Irish police said a "substantial amount of cash was stolen" by two armed men who threatened staff at the Rustic Stone restaurant on Exchequer Street.
The robbery took place shortly after 23:00 BST on Sunday.
Gardai have issued descriptions of the robbers and have appealed to witnesses who were in the area to contact them.
They want to speak to anyone who saw two men with bicycles who were wearing high visibility jackets in the vicinity between 23:00 BST on Sunday and 00:00 BST on Monday.
One of the suspects is believed to be between 30 and 40 years of age, approximately 175cm (5ft 9in) in height, of heavy build and spoke with a Dublin accent.
He was wearing a navy tracksuit top with white stripes on the sleeves, black bottoms, white trainers with black stripes and a hat.
The second robber was described as being "very thin and gaunt" and was between 165 - 170cm (5ft 5in - 5ft 7in) in height.
