Honours night held to mark Swansea achievements

Famous names from Swansea and those who have made a contribution to the city will have their achievements celebrated in the first lord mayor's honours.

Movie star Catherine Zeta Jones, singer Bonnie Tyler, Swansea City stalwart Alan Curtis and rugby's Geoff Wheel will be thanked at a gala event.

Notable residents will also be acknowledged.

Swansea lord mayor David Hopkins said his ambition was to honour those who have helped put Swansea on the map.

The event will take place on 29 July at the Brangwyn Hall.

Services to sport: Alan Curtis (football) and Geoff Wheel (rugby)

Services to Swansea internationally: Catherine Zeta Jones

Services to music: Bonnie Tyler

Services to the arts: Nick Evans

Services to film: Ed Thomas (production designer) and Kevin Allen (film director)

Services to media and broadcasting: Huw Edwards (BBC)

Services to political life: Edwina Hart

Services to the military and defence: Thomas Simmonds, Howard Thomas, Peter Meehan, Fred Edwards

Services to Swansea's global reputation: Swansea City FC (Huw Jenkins, chairman)

Services to the community: Rachael Webb - head teacher, Hafod Primary School

Lord mayor's choice award: Ann Stephens (for work in the community)

Services to leisure and tourism: Joe's Ice Cream (Paul Jones, director)
