An 18-year-old man killed in a two-car crash was a student at an agricultural college in Carmarthenshire.

Joshua Mark Day died when a red Renault Clio and a red Ford Fiesta crashed on the A485 north of Alltwalis at around 08:10 GMT on Wednesday.

He was a student at Gelli Aur, near Llandeilo, and two of his fellow students were also in the Clio.

They are being treated at Morriston Hospital in Swansea after suffering serious injuries.

'Popular student'

Mr Day had been a student with the college for more than two years and had successfully completed a foundation apprenticeship programme in general agriculture.

He had enrolled on a full time programme to acquire more specialist agricultural engineering skills, the college said.

Peter Rees, assistant principal for the campus, said Mr Day was a popular student.

"We are greatly saddened by the tragic loss of Joshua and wish to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends," he said.

"Joshua was progressing well with his studies and had recently gained part time employment with a local agricultural engineering company.

"He was popular with both staff and students at Gelli Aur campus which is a very close community, with many students sharing common interests and ambitions."

The college said students were being supported after being told of Mr Day's death.
